Dare to Wear: Members Only Rubber Leggings

I was feeling daring today, therefore it’s all about “Dare to Wear” fashions! I knew Members Only was updating their 80’s image with a line of Leather Jackets (which I love by the way). But who knew they were going to really step out of the eighties and into the new millennium with even more with the addition of clothes, and the recent introduction of their rubber leggings. I’m sure Kova &T ( love this line) are shaking in their boots, and Mary Kate Olsen has bought several pair, because the Members Only version of the “leather look” leggings are only $88 bucks ( yes that's cheap compared) at Urban Outfitters or Revolve Clothing. If you’re bold enough to wear them then this is a great find!

P.S. Yes, Rihanna apparently loves them!

Style File Find of the Week: BDG Zip Back Cardigan Sweater

photo cred: Urban Outfitters

Anyone who knows me personally has to know I love a cardigan, and anyone who reads this blog knows I kind of have a thing for “hardware” accents on clothes. So imagine my glee when I saw this little gem the BDG Zip Back Cardigan . We know this went immediately on to my lengthy Urban Outfitters wish list. This Cardi comes in black, grey and this wonderful ruby color and is a doable 58 dollars ( still fingers crossed it goes on sale soon) and of course you can get it here.

Crimes of Fashion: Cheap Monday Nina Short

Let me first start off by saying I l-o-v-e Cheap Monday jeans they are hands down one of my favorite companies. That being said I h-a-t-e the companies Nina Short, no short or jean should accentuate that little lower abdominal section (sometimes referred to as the pooch) that is so hard to work off regardless of how many hours of cardio you log in at the gym. Seriously the first thing I though was “mom jean shorts” when I saw them on the website the second thing was “why are these thing 65 dollars the same price as full length pants?” One thing I will give them is the length which is especially nice for someone like me who rarely shows much leg. Now this is all just my opinion, but if you want to look like you’re in the early stages of pregnancy you can pick your Nina Shorts up at Urban Outfitters.

P.S. And yes they are also pleated....the horror

Crimes of Fashion: The Turban

I saw someone actually wearing one as a fashion accessory on the street this past week and it prompted me to write about this crime of fashion once again. Now don’t get me wrong turbans have there place in this world as a cultural and religious statement that I respect but as a fashion statement I think not. The item picture is labeled as a Scrunch Linen Beanie …...my ass that is a turban! The turban made a comeback in spring 2007 yet there still seems to be some stragglers of this trend still around. As with every trend there are a select few that can pull it off without looking like they are wearing some type of costume, but seriously this isn’t something for the mass market even though they sold them as a part of Madonna’s H&M Line. My 100 year old great aunt doesn’t even rock these things, so why would a hot 20-30 something want to wear this fashion trend.

Denim of the Week: Lux Pin Up & Equinox Jean

photo cred: Urban Outfitters

The skinny jean is here to stay, and I’m damned happy about it! When the style first reappeared I was a little leery about it, you know I though they would make my thighs look like sausage. To my surprise they didn’t and it’s been a love affair ever since. Lux a line carried by Urban Outfitters keeps coming up with ways to keep the skinny jean look fresh by mixing it up and not just doing the basic 5 pocket look. The first of my new favorite "skinnies" are Lux’s Equinox Skinny Jean which have some great detailing in lieu of front pockets, as well as a really cute yet non functional belt loops on the front and back. The Pin Up Jean is a sexier pocket less version with its biggest twist being the tulip hem at the back of the ankle and the wonderful slimming seaming on the front and back of the legs. Both jeans are sans back pockets which means they give your booty that extra little something something! You can pick one or both pair up for $78.00 each here.

Accessory Find of the Week: Feather Skinny Headwrap

I’m really not the hippie chic/boho kind of girl as far as my style goes. I just afraid of walking out of the house looking like I’m wearing some type of costume ( Mischa Barton). I did go to school in Berkeley, CA so most of my other views in life are boho/hippie-ish and maybe that’s why I have fallen for the Feather Skinny Headwrap. It’s a perfect accessory for me since I’m growing my hair out, and trying to play around with looks sans scissors. Even though the headwrap is made out of such a natural item as feathers there’s something so modern and fashion forward about it. Even someone who isn’t really ready to take the full step into a headwrap could get away with this since it has an elastic back it could be worn headband style. And for 16 dollars it’s a fashion risk I’m willing to take, so if you want to take the risk with me pick yours up at Urban Outfitters.

Cute Collabos: Hawks by Geren Ford

photo cred: Urban Outfitters

How many ways can I say it “I heart Urban Outfitters” from their cheap chic stuff, to their brand boutique. Well now UO is bringing even more to the table with it’s collaboration with Geren Ford called Hawks by Geren Ford. Hawks by Geren Ford seems to be a sailor inspired collection of separates as well as dresses and is just one of five capsule collections that are to be spread throughout the year at UO. Other UO slated designers are Steve Alan, Charlotte Ronson, Corpus, and Paul& Joe Sister. The roll out of the Hawks line is scheduled for May although there are two items online right now. One odd thing about these capsule collections is there seems to be almost no marketing behind it I’ve only seen info about this on one other blog and WWD. I’m sure if your anything like me you’re chomping at the bit to see more!

“High” Fashion: Zoe Button Sleeve Top

Okay, I totally love Urban Outfitters it’s one of my favorite stores making this post particularly hard to write. I was browsing online today when I came across an item that made me say WTF! Don’t get me wrong the Zoe Button Sleeve Top is totally cute, and something I would typically wear but the 88 dollar price tag has me at a loss. Really,88 bucks for a sheer modal t-shirt with all of 6 rhinestones that aren't even Swarovski? Someone in Urban's merchandising department has been getting high if they think anyone should be paying that much for this item!

“High” Fashion: Nightcap Fairy Headband/Belt

The Boho chic look is here to stay, and that means the leather braided headband worn on center parted locks is here to stay as well. Today I came across one (which is a band/belt hybrid) while browsing my favorite online shop that was priced at $154.00, yeah you are seeing straight $154.00. Nightcap clothing the creator of this headband/belt hybrid is of course straight out f L.A. and headed by Carisa Brambles former sales girl for other L.A. based stores. The line boost some really cute yet typical boho/la-girl looks that you would expect to see on the likes of a Mischa Barton, or Mary-Kate Olsen. With it's lofty price tag for 50 inches of braided leather, and some fringe Nightcap totally misses the mark. If you are still in love with this look you are in luck you can find a cheaper version here.

Find of the Week: Lux Gingham Jacket

The Lux Gingham Jacket what more can I say but, damn I love this little bomber jacket! What a way to spruce up a plain jean and tee ( my uniform) than with the fresh and rare spring peek of gingham. This would even look really cute atop a LBD so very glam grunge! It's just really hard to go wrong with the crop cut of the jacket which accents the waist, oh and paired with high waist jeans well pure perfection. Pick up your cute little gingham jacket at Urban Outfitters of course!

Dare to Wear: LA Girl FLARE Bright Nail Polish

phot cred: LA Girl Cosmetics

Okay so this weeks beauty find is also a pretty cheap way to try out a new beauty trend for your nails. It’s spring and of course color is going to be all the rage, this year it’s just punched up a notch with neon. LA Girl FLARE Bright Nail Polish has given you a chance to try this trend and make a move away from the dark tones ( which I still love too) with little regret due to the 4 dollar price tag which is clearly a steal. A perfect example of how to wear this trend is how Rihanna did during her Grammy apperance with her neon orange nails and perfect Electric Blue Zac Posen dress. I know some of you are sitting there thinking I’m not 20 and I’m not Rihanna well neither am I, but I’m still wearing LA Girl's “tropical” color on my toes. If you don’t want to order online, you can pick up selected colors in store at Urban Outfitters for 5 dollars.

Cute Collabo: Lisa Grue for Nylon

This collaboration is perfect for any “hipster”, Nylon Magazine ( a.k.a Hipster Bible), fashion forward artist Lisa Grue, and Urban Outfitters a perfect trifecta! Who would think a magazine would team up with an artist to make a trendy capsule t-shirt line that is so cute. Best yet the artist, Urban Outfitters, Nylon collaboration doesn't even leave your boyfriend out there are Men’s Styles ( artist vary) as well.

Find of the Week: Truly Madly Deeply V Neck

As you may have notice from some of my previous entries I love a good t-shirt. For the most part give me jeans and a t shirt and I’m happy. My current addition to my T shirt wardrobe is the V-Neck Tee. There are many companies that make really good ones American Apparel, Alternative Apparel etc, but for me Truly Madly Deeply makes them with the most color and print varieties. I know what you’re thinking “its way too low cut” and I’m telling you to give it a chance. There are two places on a women regardless her weight and height that are the most beautiful her back and her décolletage and this complements the latter exquisitely. On a woman with a fuller bust this look completely evens out your shape, and actually doesn’t draw the attention to your bust but actually accents your waist and shoulders. If you’re still feeling this look is too risky dress it up by layering it with your favorite necklaces. At 24 bucks a pop the risk is well worth it.
You can get yours exclusively at Urban Outfitters. photo cred: Urban Outfitters

Denim of the Week: Cheap Monday V Fit

What can I say about Cheap Monday Jeans other than I love them! This Swedish brand lives up to part of its name being cheap and yes I consider 65 dollars cheap for a spectacular “designer” brand! One big warning these jeans are some of the skinniest of the skinny (this trend is going nowhere) and going one size up is a MUST. I currently own 3 pairs myself, and I’m obsessing about the new V-Fit Jean, which also gets the high waist trend into the mix. The angled placement of the front pocket on the V-Fit style is unique and will have people asking you where you to them or at least giving you a double take. Place these jeans with a simple white v neck t shirt and cute pair of heels and you’re ready for a night on the town!
Note: I‘ve only seen this style at Urban Outfitters.
