Q&A: Noni Creme of butter London

I've let you know about butter London the brand now you're chance to hear more from the creative side of the brand. I was lucky enough to get an interview with butter London's creative director and all around nail maven Noni Creme. She enlighten me about her inspirations, future of butter London, and I also found out we have a common beauty treatment.
Enjoy........

Kasey: Inspirations, references, or underlying themes we can look forward to in the future for Butter London?
Noni Creme: We will always seek to be the forerunners in the realm of safer nail products. This means staying abreast of new studies and information about the chemicals used in our industry, and never being afraid of reformulating if we see a need. As far as underlying themes, we will stick to our company decree:“We believe in Rock and roll, Great Britain, and Fashion!” Producing safe nail products is paramount, but so is Fashion. Our colour palette is the most fashion forward available. I spend a lot of time considering the latest runways shows and collections, and how that translates to nails.

Kasey: I'm sure Butter London is expanding do you have any plans on opening up additional shops in the future? Distributing though a major outlet?
Noni Creme:We are aiming to be 80 stores wide by 2012, with the majority of those being airport locations, which we see as important retail offerings in a world where wait times and poor shopping selection dominate the airport industry. Our own stores and website are our primary outlet for distribution, but we are always open to aligning ourselves with any major retailer who is a good fit for our brand. I am ferocious about protecting our brand identity, and genuinely believe that without keeping the brand in tact, the company will suffer.
Kasey: Favorite Butter London color/product and why?
Noni Creme:That’s like asking a parent to pick a favorite child! They are all fabulous! The hottest colours for S/S 08, are available in our current Fashionista’s Favorites pack. They will keep your nails looking vibrant and fresh all summer.

Kasey :I'm sure nothing touches your nails other than Butter London, but what are some of your other favorite cosmetics (blushes, lipstick, gloss, mascara etc)?
Noni Creme:I am a die-hard Juicy Tubes girl (Lancome lip gloss.) This gloss stays wet and shiny looking for up to 8 hours. It’s incredible. I also love Egyptian Magic. It is a salve made from bee by-products that is an absolute must for anything from chapped skin to stretch marks, even as an ultra hydrating facial mask. The best mascara I have ever come across is “Lash Out”, by Loreal. I have used it for 10 years, and tried EVERYTHING in between, but always go back.

Kasey: When you aren't overly busy running your business what are you doing?
Noni Creme:I like to stay inspired, and am truly at my best when I am feeling excited about something creative. I spend hours at museums and galleries, (I am an Art Historian by trade) trying to expose myself to as many genres and styles of art as I can. I absolutely LOVE playing with interiors as well. I just finished helping a girlfriend redecorate her house, and I felt positively buzzed by it! Both of those hobbies speak directly to my work at bL, and help me find direction for packaging, store design, and colour palettes.
Kasey: I love the fact that all the lacquers ware named after someone/something British how do you come up with the names?
Noni Creme: Thank you! Choosing the names is hilarious. My husband has a strong London (Cockney) accent, which cracks me up. We sit around and think up dirty slang for just about everything, and then tone it down from there.....sometimes!

Beauty Find of the Week: butter London

butter London, boy do I love this nail polish err lacquers ( they call them Lacquers)! The company is one of a few that are “ 3 free” i.e. free of the toxic, and cancer causing chemicals Formaldehyde, Toluene and DBP. butter London was founded by CEO Sasha Muir and all of the lovely colors and treatments are from the mind of Creative Director Nonie Crème. These ladies manged not only to develop a brand of nail lacquers and treatments ( cuticle cremes, foot cremes etc) but also combine that with actual salon services ( mani's 20 dollars, and Pedi's 40 dollars). This concept of a salon carrying it’s own brand of Nail Lacquer is almost unheard of combine that with the fact that each and every nail lacquer is on the cutting edge of fashion and this is a one two punch that can’t be beat. Each color is 12 dollars each, no frowning it’s only a few dollars more than the OPI you usually buy and remember its 3 Free! What adds a little more flair to the butter London brand is that each color is named after someone/something British and all the names are explained on the website. My two favorite colors have to be Fash Pack a wonderful year around taupe that is universally flattering, and West End Wonderland because by now we all know I love some flair, and this lacquer is bottled flair! Oh yeah, and it's easy to apply due to the little rectangle bottle and top allowing you to perform a perfect home polish! You can also partake in one of butter Londonspacks” ( perfectly grouped colors) a wise "pack" to buy for this time of the year would be the fashionistas Favourites Spring/Summer 2008. If you are interested in making a butter London purchase visit the website http://www.butterlondon.com/, or if you happen to be traveling pop into one of their locations (Seattle Airport, Dulles Airport, Sacramento Airport and more locations to come).
