Shoptalk: Peggy Li

It’s becoming really obvious to me that the Bay Area isn’t short on design talent, and that is especially true in the area of jewelry. We have great talents like Headbangers Accessories, Rachel Eva, and now Peggy Li. Peggy Li’s jewelry making started about 8 years ago when she was at UC Berkeley, her aesthetic fitting right in with some of the fabulous jewelry the street vendors produce. Of course with talent like hers Telegraph Ave couldn’t hold her, and her work was soon seen on the small screen Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Without a Trace just to name a few. The look of Peggy’s jewelry is simple and feminine but not at all girly or plain. There are pieces in her line inspired by yoga, and beads and set in 14K to Sterling Silver….she even has a diamond collection! My favorite piece ( pictured) is the “Weather the Storm!” necklace from her charm collection it comes in sterling silver and gold and doesn’t it seem so fitting for this week’s rainy Bay Area weather. Check out more of Peggy Li’s handmade jewelry work online…HAPPY SHOPPING!

Q&A: Tiffany, Shayla, and Tasha of Headbanger Accesories

Kasey: Inspirations, references, or underlying themes we can look forward to in the future for Headbanger Accessories?
Shayla: My inspiration comes from the rush to be different and remain different. I never want to be the girl with the same thing on twice, or even dread to go into the club and see a chick with my outfit on or even the same accessories. That is so tacky to me! So my way of eliminating that is by creating my own thing! Having something knowing, that NO ONE in the world has the same thing. We are always on top of our game and thrive on what our clients want. The fact that we create accessories that allows people to mix and match their outfits and to fit their style is a high demand. I know its been times when you are trying to find accessories to match that shirt or want a certain print, but instead you have to stick with the boring gold or silver hoops, well that’s what Headbanger is here to do, fill that void.

Tiffany: I agree. Headbanger is bold, its confidence, and its that freedom that’s been missing. In the future I want us to be known for our innovation. At first my inspiration was to only fill a void, but as our line grows and I continue to see our response, it’s the liberation behind it that inspires me. There is nothing like it.

Tasha: My inspirations are people in the industry who have their own style that

people respect & recognize. Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez and Mary J Blige are all inspirations because they set the standards & themselves apart from the average female in the industry. Headbanger is going in many different directions and they all lead to the top. We foresee ourselves definitely being on the runway with top designers, in national magazines, and on Oprah. We dream big & I’ve seen dreams come true so nothing is impossible.

Kasey: You currently only have earring designs are there any plans to expand into other things?
Tasha: Definitely, we plan on venturing into bracelets, necklaces, brochettes, purses, hats, shoe clips and whatever else we can think of for women. In addition we can’t forget about the Men, we definitely want to get into accessories for Men as well.

Shayla: Yea, men need to complete an outfit and still keep that flare of Headbanger by making a statement and knowing our custom designs can offer something NO ONE HAS

Tiffany: I’ve always wanted to get into ties. So this just may be the chance! Men always ask when we’ll have something for them. So stay tuned, its coming fellas!

Kasey: The 5 Fashion/Beauty items you can't live without.
Tasha: Earrings, Bracelets, Necklaces, Handbags & Lip Gloss…does that count!? (Laughs)

Tiffany: I personally can not live without a unique hot purse/bag, a great pair of earrings, Vaseline Cocoa Butter Vitalizing Gel Body Oil, Bvlgari Blv Perfume, and my tweezers (Laughs) I use my tweezers everyday for my ear brow fixation.

Shayla: Mine would have to be benefit erase paste, MAC c-thru lip gloss, Marc Jacobs "daisy " perfume, my vintage croc brown hand bag and my Italian boots my friend brought back from me from Italy.

Kasey: When you're not busy running your business, what are some of your favorite things to do?
Tiffany: My goal is to have a career doing what I love! So honestly my work is included on my list of favorite things. I love being creative, so making accessories is high on my list. I also LOVE traveling, movies, football, shopping, enjoying a good meal (laughs) and spending time with family and friends. I also love plotting out my next step (laughing) I know it may sound crazy, but I love thinking about my next step or next goal. I guess that’s a workaholic’s fetish!

Tasha: I love to travel, there is so much to see in the world and I want to see as much of it as I can. I also love spending quality time with my family, they keep me going & grounded always. Watching sports, I’m a big football fan so I enjoy attending games & watching them on TV…for more reasons than one! It’s doubly beneficial as a Girl! (Laughing)

Shayla: My favorite thing to do is go thrift shopping, visit my family, chilling at the house and watch reruns of martin and sip on some moscoto.

Kasey: What were you doing, prior to the launch of Headbanger Accessories?
Shayla: I was just making sure that everything is organized, promoting our business so that everyone already knew who we were before our launch. I was just waiting impatiently for that big day (Laughs)

Tasha: Actually Headbanger was an addition to my life, everything I was doing I’m still currently doing. I have a great job as a Business Office Manager at A Mental Health Hospital and I write screenplays & TV shows. I heard that 3’s a charm and I have a passion for all 3 but ultimately I will be my own Boss, no doubts about it.

Tiffany: I as well have been gifted with the ability to multitask (Laughs) ‘Jane’ of all trades, master of all! (Laughs) I have an Event Planning company (ArDour Theme Events) and I write (screenplays and TV shows) as well. I have a vast list of passions, and I’m blessed to enjoy all of them in my work.

Kasey: If you weren't in the fashion industry what would you be doing?
Shayla: well honestly if I wasn’t in the fashion industry, I don’t know what I would be doing because I just feel this is my destiny and this is my calling. If I am not making earrings then I am fashion styling, if I am not doing that then I am doing makeup. GOD gave me so many talents and to be honest they all have to do with entertainment

Tasha: I live for fashion BUT in order of preference if it were not for fashion I'd be: independently writing & working as a Manager climbing the corporate ladder…I’ve been blessed with the lifestyle to currently juggle them all right now

Tiffany: I’d still be in the other businesses I own, but doing so in small whack earrings and wishing for a “Bang”! (Laughs)

Shoptalk: Headbanger Accessories

Straight from the Bay Area three fashion savvy women( Tiffany, Shayla, and Tasha) have now turned accessories designers with their line of earrings called Head Banger Accessories . Featuring hip hop inspired names like wet-wet, crossovers, busit-babies and four distinct sizes -Petite (small) -Thick (medium) -Bold (Large) -Lavish (Extra-Large) in a wide range of colors and materials you are bound to find something to you love. My personal favorites are the metal loves ( top pictured), a full on rock star earring that is well “lavish” as well as fashion forward, and feminine all at once. Each earring is handmade and therefore each one is slightly different so we know what that means “one of a kind” jewelry and we all know how I love one of a kind. Prices for the exclusive bobbles range from $25.00-$180.00, and are available by contacting sales@headbangeraccessories.com or 510 681.6865. All Bay Area shoppers call or email ASAP and support a local business, and all shoppers outside the Bay Area be the first lady in your city with Headbanger earrings.
